For a change, Bangladesh held the upper hand over Australia for the better part of sixteen overs. But thereafter it was Australia all the way at the Kensington Oval, Barbados in their final league match in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean.
Australia were in big trouble at six down for sixty-five and Bangladesh were reaping dividends for bowling well and snapping up the wickets. It seemed that Bangladesh had this match under control for the first sixteen overs.
For Bangladesh, the back breaking point was the seventy-four run partnership shared from that point on between Michael Hussey and young Steven Smith as they made the final four overs count to take Australia to 141 after Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan picked up two wickets each.
Hussey scored forty-seven runs off just twenty-nine balls while Smith contributed a rather valuable twenty-seven run innings in the context of the match.
However, the extra runs at the end of the Australian innings appeared to have put pressure on the Bangladesh batsmen with none of them settling into the match; too many catches off miscued shots and Dirk Nannes using bounce and pace to further create consternation meant that the fast bowler ended up with four wickets conceding just eighteen runs as Bangladesh ended the match insipidly on 114 all out in the nineteenth over.
