The Mumbai Indians turned the tables on hot favourites, the Delhi Daredevils, burying them into their yard by ninety-eight runs in the league phase of the IPL 3.
Led by the man of the moment, Sachin Tendulkar, Mumbai Indians, the perennial underachievers of the IPL thus far, turned it on big time on the super hot favourites who have found the semi final stage a jinx.
Tendulkar was resplendent with the bat, and his sixty-three runs off just thirty-two balls were testimony of it. Surprisingly, not a single six was scored in his innings, even though he had eleven fours to his name, as he set the Daredevils back from the very start, thwarting the efforts of a strong bowling line up led by Dirk Nannes.
Ambati Rayudu once again showed the reason behind signing him on with a cameo knock but it was Saurabh Tiwary who matched swords alongside Tendulkar. Tiwary’s thirty-seven ball sixty included three huge sixes as the Mumbai Indians put up a formidable 218 on board, the highest target of the IPL 3.
The Delhi Daredevils were not expected to save in at the Ferozeshah Kotla. However, the Mumbai Indians bowlers read out the riot act, and they got together for a feast that saw the hosts crumble .
Dwayne bravo struck twice to pick up AB de Villiers and Virender Sehwag and it was pretty much a parade thereafter with the Delhi Daredevils never really threatening to take the match away from Mumbai. Ferveez Maharoof’s top score of the innings of twenty-eight runs was cut from by fellow Sri Lankan, Sanath Jayasuriya. Another two wickets fro Harbhajan Singh and the Daredevils was packed up by the seventeen over for 120 runs.
