Even as the Indians are sulking about the pitch at Eden Gardens, two key players of the opposition are hitting all the right notes ahead of the second Test of the India South Africa series in Kolkata.
AB de Villiers feels that South Africa are not too worried about the no. 1 Test team tag but believe that their performances will take them there eventually. What they are counting though are confidence and momentum, both of which have been int he favour of the visitors after their impressive victory in the first Test in Nagpur.
AB is not too concerned about the nature of the pitch at Eden Gardens and one man who outwardly at least appears unperturbed is the South African captain, Graeme Smith. Smith has spoken about how South Africa were once again facing the prospect of winning a series in India, after India drew level on a dicey pitch in Green Park, Kanpur in 2008. Now the added incentive is the fact that if South Africa win the match, they will regain the top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
On the contrary, Smith is hoping that the conflicts between the Indian team management, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian captain, and the pitch curator in Kolkata will distract the Indian team sufficiently enough to cause an upset.
