This World Cup is heading for a showdown without the Stars – the count of players that are down and out injured ahead of the quadrennial extravaganza is just mounting.

Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has fractured his left knee during the team’s practice session deepening the injury mess for the side – doctors have advised Razzaq three weeks of rest, which means he will be excluded from the Pakistan’s World Cup squad.

Pakistan had already been struggling with injuries to speedster Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif and an injury to the most vital player in the squad will certainly add to the team’s anguish.

The veteran all rounder Azhar Mehmood who made his comeback to international cricket after four odd years in the recently concluded ODI series in South Africa has been called upon to replace Razzaq.

News that will definitely help the Pakistan cause is that of paceman Umar Gul who has been cleared to play in the World Cup after recovering from a shin injury.

Pakistan is scheduled to leave for the West Indies on Thursday, and confront an up-hill task in the opener against the hosts.
