The rumour became a reality as the cricket world received the announcement with mixed feelings.
The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Ejaz Butt, confirmed the speculation, “Afridi will lead Pakistan in one-day and Test cricket and is our best choice.”
Afridi, for his part, was thrilled at the prospect, “It is a great challenge to lead the team in all forms of the game. I will try to do my best and take all the players as a unit and build towards winning the World Cup ( 2011 ICC World Cup ).”
Shahid Afridi’s immediate assignment before the 2010 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka is Pakistan’s tour of England where they will be playing Test series against Australia and England.
