Former Pak cricket captain Wasim Akram came down heavily on Indian coach Greg Chappell for his decision to drop Irfan Pathan for the test against West Indies.
Akram, one of the mentors of promising Irfan Pathan said,
I don’t know why Pathan has been dropped. Coach Greg Chappell has said his confidence is low. But when a player’s confidence is low he should be played and not dropped. He is one of the experienced bowlers. There was need to play him and not drop him to save him.
He also did not agree with the Chappell’s constant changes in composition and strategies of Indian side. The bowling legend says such experiments will not work out all the time. A team can experiment for six months but it is not acceptable to adopt same strategy forever.
Akram, who came to Mumbai for a promotional assignment commented,
You get confidence when the captain and coach back you and not when the coach goes out and tells everyone that the player’s confidence is low.
Earlier Indian team manager spoke to the media persons that Irfan was not dropped, he was rested.
