As the date for the IPL 3 draws near, Lalit Modi has another problem on his hands. This time it is the Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister who does not want the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers to play in IPL 3.
K. Venkat Reddy is asking the local IPL team not to take part in the IPL 3 after it came to light that not just the IPL 3 opening ceremony was moved to Mumbai but apparently, the IPL 3 governing council wants the Deccan Chargers to play all their matches in Mumbai worried over the disruptions caused by the agitation over Telangana.
But the sports minister is assuring the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, the union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, and the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, Lalit Modi, that the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) has agreed not to create trouble or intervene while the match was in progress.
Actually it might not be a bad idea given that the Deccan Chargers have been jinxed on their home turf, slipping badly in IPL 1, winning the IPL 2 in South Africa and playing really badly again when the Champions League Twenty20 was played last year.
The only problem – will the Deccan Chargers be safe in Mumbai with an Australian leading the team (Adam Gilchrist) and the Shiv Sena threatening to spit fire?
