West Indies lost three wickets in the first session and they lost three wickets in the final session. In between, was an innings would have given West Indies the boost of confidence they were seriously in need of in the second Test in Adelaide after their innings defeat in the first Test at the Gabba.
Dwayne Bravo listed West Indies efforts after Doug Bollinger dismissing the openers at the Adelaide Oval. Adrian Barath, the century man from the first Test, was followed by West Indies captain, Chris Gayle as West Indies were reduced to two down for thirty-nine in less than ten overs. West Indies managed to get to 117 by lunch but not before Ramnaresh Sarwan, who recovered from the back injury for which he missed the first Test, fell to Mitchell Johnson for twenty-eight.
But resistance came in the form of Shivnarine Chanderpaul who made a valuable sixty-two runs. But it was Dwayne Bravo who towered over Chanderpaul and Brendon Nash’s unbeaten efforts on forty-four and Darren Sammy who was unbeaten on an identical score. Bravo’s innings proved the impetus as he shared a 117 run stand with Chanderpaul before the latter was ruled out via a controversial catch after referring to the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS).
Bravo though was fortunate to survive three dropped catches and Nash came back after initially retiring hurt to give West Indies real hope, ending the first day at stumps on six for 336.
