West Indies lost three wickets in the first session and they lost three wickets in the final session. In between, was an innings would have given West Indies the boost of confidence they were seriously in need of in the second Test in Adelaide after their innings defeat in the first Test at the Gabba.
Dwayne Bravo listed West Indies efforts after Doug Bollinger dismissing the openers at the Adelaide Oval. But it was Dwayne Bravo who towered over Chanderpaul and Brendon Nash’s unbeaten efforts on forty-four and Darren Sammy who was unbeaten on an identical score. Bravo’s innings proved the impetus as he shared a 117 run stand with Chanderpaul before the latter was ruled out via a controversial catch after referring to the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS).
Bravo though was fortunate to survive three dropped catches and Nash came back after initially retiring hurt to give West Indies real hope, ending the first day at stumps on six for 336.
