The Australian selectors have kept the selection for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 rather open including some expected names and some rather unusual ones.
Brett Lee’s final attempt at resurrecting his cricket career for Australia was given the boost he needed after he was named in the preliminary squad. The Australian fast bowler has battled a string of injuries that forced him out of Test cricket and now is looking to make the World Cup his swansong in many ways.
The selectors have included a fair number of new faces in the squad as well including the inexperienced ones to compete against. Mitchell Starc, Ryan Harris, Steve O’Keefe, James Pattinson find themselves with an outside chance of making the squad for the Indian sub continent.
The most unusual name perhaps in the list belongs to Brad Hodge who has been out of Australia’s plans for a long time to come and suddenly finds himself in the reckoning despite his recent criticism about the Test status of young Australian cricketers due to the selectors’ indiscretion.
