That is not a result of a poll conducted by crickblog.com but rather the claims of a British newspaper as it tries to find the most ego inflated sportsmen.
According to their report, that supposedly includes the likes of boxing great Muhammad Ali, basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and Jose Mourinho, the Real Madrid coach, there is no need to look further than the Indian cricketer and the former England captain to find out how ego inflated cricketers lead their lives.
With Pietersen, it was expected given that he shared a terse relation with the England media for his flamboyant lifestyle that includes his marriage to former Liberty X singer, Jessica Taylor, and his penchant for Shane Warne’s yellow Lamborghini that gets a fair mention. Pietersen’s “walking ego” ( as coined by mate Warne himself ) gets a decent mention.
And one would say Pietersen’s ego walked right into that list, and not surprisingly, given that he took full credit for the Ashes 2010 success for England down under when he claimed that it was his stepping down from the England captaincy that paved the way for Andrew Strauss’ men.
Yuvraj Singh though finds himself on the list to given KP company. Yuvraj lost his place in the Test series against Sri Lanka after an injury that saw Suresh Raina score a century on debut and outshine the struggling Yuvraj Singh who was unkindly dubbed “water boy” by the fans who were later kicked out of the stadium.
But the incident gets a fair mention while the newspaper claims Yuvraj Singh suffers from an ego that is bloated on the riches of the IPL that reflect on his waistline whereby his fitness has also come under question by the selectors to the surprise of Yuvraj himself.
Yuvraj has since been struggling to show his mettle. Once considered a serious contender to Mahendra Singh Dhoni not only in lucrative endorsements but also, for the post of the Indian captain, Yuvraj is now battling to raise his esteem in the public eye.
While Yuvraj has tried to fight off the image of his looking for the next arm candy and swagger that some attribute to his arrogance, Kevin Pietersen has tried similarly to fight off the image of being brash but continues to tease and taunt that image through his verbals via Twitter or otherwise.
