Stunned by the fightback by England perhaps, Pakistan struggled to hold their own as a stunning session after tea on the third day of the fourth Test of the England Pakistan Test series saw Pakistan bundled out in their first innings at Lord’s and even forced to follow on!
England’s viligance did not last much longer after tea with Jonathan Trott dismissed for 184 by Wahab Riaz and England finishing rather nicely on 446 at the end of the first innings, considering they were five down for forty-seven on the first day.
In response, the England bowlers swung into action and Pakistan did not know the first thing of what hit them. Stuart Broad, high from his own maiden Test century, Steven Finn and James Anderson tore into the line up even as Graeme Swann brought his spin into the heady mix of things. Froms even for fifty-seven to seventy-four all out, Pakistan captain, Salman Butt, was the top scorer with just twenty-six runs to his name. Four wickets for Swann, three for Finn were the highlights of the England bowling.
In a session that saw fourteen wickets fall ( including two of England’s), Pakistan were in doubt they would be forced to follow on. And that is exactly what the England captain, Andrew Strauss, had them do.
But Pakistan did not fare much better a second time round. The rain then perhaps served as a temporary reprieve when they found themselves four down for forty-one.
