Not twenty-four hours earlier, England were moaning about the Duckworth Lewis method and the rain rule. But they would not have been complaining too much after their second match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Ireland pulled out one of the best bowling performance but were done in by the rain that simply would not relent. England were made to work for their runs and quite unlike their performance against the West Indies the previous day.

Bailing England out was none other than Eoin Morgan, the former Irish cricketer, and his forty-five was the saving grace in an otherwise pale England scorecard. For Ireland, the chief wicket takers were Boyd Rankin and Kevin O'Brien. But it was Trent Johnston's figures were fourteen for one from four overs that made life difficult for England who managed only 120 from their twenty overs.
But Ireland's innings lasted all of 3.3 overs, having lost one wicket for fourteen runs, when the rain came down for one final say on the match. Ireland did not even have a chance to fight back and England, without the mandatory five overs to complete a mandatory Twenty20 match, made it to the Super Eights.
