The West Indies captain was in an apologetic mood. After all, his team had put out perhaps their most dreadful performance yet of the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 as they bowed out to leave Sri Lanka to join Australia in the semi finals.

West Indies were bowled out for a measly 105 which was chased down without drama by Australia with twenty-two balls to spare. Even Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan managed scores of twenty-four and twenty-six only as the Australian bowlers once again sank their teeth into the opposition. Steven Smith in particular seems to be enjoying the stint thoroughly. Brad Haddin dragged his name out of the hat for forty-two runs as Australia cantered home with six wickets to spare at the Beausejour Stadium in St. Lucia in the final Super Eights match.
The ignominy and its impact was not lost on Chris Gayle who apologised for the team's woeful performance in a knock out scenario. Gayle spoke at the press conference, " First let me apologise to the fans, to get knocked out of the T20 is a tough one. The display was absolutely terrible. t's a pressure situation, losing early wickets (and) the guys kind of crumbled in the middle. I'm very disappointed."
Words that perhaps would be have more becoming on the Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, as well as the balm, not a toothy smile, would have calmed the fires a little.
