At the outset, one would wonder how Chris Gayle could score seventy-five runs in a single innings, virtually batting out the innings in a Twenty20 match scenario and yet end up on the losing side.

Sachin Tendulkar's blistering half century put paid to the Kolkata Knight Riders' efforts to get back to their winning ways. Tendulkar's seventy-one from forty-eight balls was instrumental in making the KKR target appear more facile for the Mumbai Indians playing on home turf at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
In overhauling the target of 155, he was first aided by Shikar Dhawan's blitz at the start, Saurabh Tiwary's partnership and R. Satish finishing matters off in the end as KKR struggled to find crippling breakthroughs despite Ishant Sharma who took two wickets but leaked runs at eleven per over.
Earlier in the day, Chris Gayle marked his return by opening the match for the beleaguered KKR. His seventy-five runs from sixty balls was far from the blitz usual to him, although he did provide the two sixes of the innings. KKR captain Sourav Ganguly and Owais Shah proved good partners scoring thirty-one runs each but it was Zaheer Khan like his teammates who kept asking questions of the KKR team. However, the KKR lacked the momentum to push the match beyond the reach of the Mumbai Indians.
