2010 IPL 3 Match 21: Tendulkar Stands in The Way of a Chennai Resurgence

--> -->

There is still no word on the extent of Justin Kemp's injury. But the Chennai Super Kings felt super confident that Mahendra Singh Dhoni had recovered from his sore elbow sufficiently enough to take the field and lead the team. However, the resurgent CSK team ran into Sachin Tendulkar. The result then was something that opposing teams have had to put up with in recent months - a humbled loss.

Tendulkar's seventy-two from fifty-two balls innings was the perfect foil from which Mumbai Indians could feel more in command of their chase as they followed up on the Chennai Super Kings' splendid total of 180. As Tendulkar himself stated, the Mumbai Indians did not get off to a flying start but they had the steadiness required to overhaul a difficult challenge.

The Chennai Super Kings would have fancied their chances of getting back to winning after Suresh Raina powered the team to a more than challenging total on the back of a fifty-two ball eighty-three run knock that firmly sealed Chennai's position at half time.

Aiding him ably was Subramaniam Badrinath with a half century and while question will be raised whether Chennai could have accelerated more, they did show a lot more mettle to their batting that did not involve Matthew Hayden or his Mongoose bat.

However, the CSK bowling failed to get the plot, suffered in execution and paid the price for facing up to a man of form and class such as Tendulkar on a day they were not at their best. Tendulkar found the enigmatic Shikar Dhawan whose half century gave Tendulkar the impetus to carry on without burden as the duo raised 92 runs. Muttiah Muralitharan briefly threatened but the horse had bolted by five wickets with Kieron Pollard chipping in nicely with twenty runs from just nine balls and the Chennai Super Kings were still searching for that elusive win that has disappeared from their picture just when injuries surfaced.
