Afridi is Hauled up by Pakistan Cricket Board for Public Comments about Rift with Waqar

Troubles rarely seem to keep their distance from Shahid Afridi. After virtually making public his rift with the Pakistan coach, Waqar Younis, the Pakistan Cricket Board is yet again on the trail of the Pakistan Twenty20 and ODI captain for speaking his mind in public.

It would be safe to say this is not the first time that Afridi has got into trouble for opening his mouth. But this has nothing to do with biting the cherry in another curious case of ball tampering. The Pakistan captain is in trouble again with the board, not over his problems with the Pakistan coach, Waqar Younis, but for voicing it for the benefit of the cricket world.

Rumours of unhappy association between Waqar and Afridi have been brewing since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 that saw Pakistan beaten by India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final. It seemed that problems had come to a head during the Pakistan West Indies ODI series and although Pakistan won that series, the problems have refused to be buried under the carpet.

Afridi gave conviction to those rumours when he told reporters that he was indeed going to meet with the Pakistan Cricket Board and that he was going to discuss the team management problems where he did not mention names but clearly suggesting that there was a need for proper boundaries for each job so one would not trample on another.

However, while that is a problem that needs to be sorted out for the sake of Pakistan cricket, it would appear that Afridi's repeated transgressions with regard to speaking to the public and the media is going to cost him a few more rifts than the one he is already dealing with.
