Shahid Afridi is disappointed for a valid reason. He cannot understand why Pakistan are not being allowed to savour their victory longer.
The next ICC World Twenty20 takes place in the Caribbean in just about nine months time. But the first edition in South Africa, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, allowed India to reign champions for two years in which time they enjoyed virtually unprecedented felicitations. Like Pakistan, India’s only claim was the World Cup eons ago.
Pakistan cricket has received a huge fillip with his victory in England, especially after losing the hosting rights to the Champions Trophy to South Africa after the tournament was postponed for a year already. With Pakistan embroiled in battle with their Asian counterparts about playing cohosts to the 2011 World Cup, this win has created a huge impetus for the sport in the country starved of the game.
Perhaps the ICC should really think about this one!
