Afridi: Wanted Younis Khan for England But Problems of Match Practise and Discipline

The Pakistan captain defended himself over the omission of Younis Khan, stating that the former Pakistan captain's own problems contributed to his being left out of Pakistan's squad for the England tour and series against Australia.

Shahid Afridi reiterated that he did want Younis Khan in the Pakistan Test squad for the series against Australia and England thereafter, but that he alone was not responsible for who stays and who goes.

Afridi told media persons, "I wanted Younis to be in the team but besides the issue of his recent form there was also a bit of disciplinary issue with Younis. One must understand I don't' alone pick the team the input of the coach and selectors is also involved in this process."

Afridi expressed optimisim with the team announced, "I am pleased with the confidence level of the new players and I am sure they will go and perform well in England. We are working hard on each player and show him his mistakes with the help of the video analyst the focus is on cricket in the team."

He also stated that he as coming to terms with the responsibility of captaincy and the pressure on his own batting and he says the improvement is visible from the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean to the 2010 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, although Pakistan failed to make the final despite Afridi hitting two ODI centuries.
