After Mendira Bedi, Veena Mallik to Be Female Face and Voice for Cricket on Television?

--> -->

Shockingly, it would appear Veena Mallik has a closer cricket resume than Mandira Bedi when she started out. Does cricket need more pin ups? Or does no one see a problem with this?

Veena Mallik first became a household name with their sensational claims against former boyfriend, Mohammad Asif, who she claimed was in cohorts with Indian bookies to fix matches for Pakistan.

And just when one thought one had seen it all with one of the names she accused, Dheeraj Dixit, turned around and stated she was the agent who arranged to fix matches for five or six Pakistan cricketers.

Now as Indian television viewers they had seen enough of the pouting and flirting of Ms. Mallik, she is back in business. And it does not get stranger than this.

Veena Mallik's changing flirtatious stand with men on the Bigg Boss had everyone questioning whether she is a creditable person to believe on the stance as far as spot fixing and match fixing was concerned, particularly after she seemed to constantly contradict herself, swinging one way then another.

But obviously her credibility had perhaps not taken such a hit after all because the news reels are going gaga over reports that Mallik could host a World Cup based programme, close on the heels of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, on one of the very same television new channels.

Naturally this follows on the footsteps of Mandira Bedi who also shot to fame on the sports scene with her debut in the World Cup of 2003. And it would seem for the first time, the channels would have found a worthy successor in that no other female sports presenter has been taken about for his clothes and her penchant for controversy as much as Mandira Bedi. And there is little doubt that if Veena Mallik does make her debut in this new venture, she and Bedi will have perhaps found a league of their own ( and leave other women in the serious pursuit in the same field in another category, hopefully).

While Mandira Bedi learnt the ropes on the job, it would appear that Veena Mallik is claiming to be knowledgeable about the game enough to host a show in her own right. How this pans out remains to be seen. What is not in doubt is that a cult is being created that not all of the rest of the female sports population is rushing to join.

Will Mandira Bedi and Veena Mallik usurp the show at this World Cup? Stay tuned.
