Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath is now 36 years 197 days old. He would be 40 when Australia Cricket Team will tour to England for the historic Ashes series in 2009. At that time, McGrath’s contemporaries may be retiring from international cricket. However, it is a different case for McGrath. He has a strong desire to play 2009 Ashes series before retirement.
For veteran McGrath, age is not a retarding factor. He is very confident that at 40, he will maintain his fitness and will not let down his bowling performance.
McGrath says,
As long as the body holds together then to me you’ve got to be a better cricketer, and the body’s feeling great, I’m training hard and everything is going well.
McGrath who holds the world record for the highest number of Test Wicket (542wk from 119 tests) as a fast bowler has recently retuned to Australian national squad after long gap.
He added,
I know a lot of guys who have got a lot fitter and stronger when they are 40 than what they were when they were 25. The older you get the more experienced you are, so mentally you’re a lot stronger.
