Pakistan's Medical Association president Umer Ayub and doctors have backed the guilty duo of Mohd Asif and Shoaib Akhtar, describing the bans imposed on them as unjust and offering to challenge the tribunal's verdict in court. Umer went on to criticize the PCB officials of merely trying to please the 'outside world'. He was quoted saying,
"Pakistan Cricket Board has pleased the outside world and the International Cricket Council (ICC) by banning Akhtar and Asif but justice was not meted out to the two."

The speed king Akhtar and the master of swing Asif were banned after their blood samples tested positive for an anabolic steroid nandrolone. It wasn't only sample 'A' that tested positive even their 'B' sample were affirmative. Shoaib had made an attempt to defend himself saying, a high protein diet had inflated the level of nandrolone in his body, but latter refused to give in his urine sample that could have proven the same. Asif on the other hand was unable to defend himself owning to semantic barrier, as the reports said. That could have been acceptable if the hearing was done by the ICC, but it was a three man tribunal well within the country that decided his fate, if he wanted to prove his innocence he could have done it in his mother tongue, as all around their were from his own country.
Mr. Umer this a mere gimmick to earn a spot in the convict's eye, you are blaming your own cricket officials who know the importance of these players citing the World Cup next year, I think before they made the verdict they knew what a blow would their suspension be for the team. Therefore, take heed to what statements you are making.
The two were given a time of seven days to appeal against their punishment, and it appears that they will make the appeal today. The PCB has announced a two-man appeal committee that comprises of a former judge Fakhruddin Ibrahim and former Test cricketer Haseeb Ehsan for the hearing.
