Shoaib Akhtar could have missed the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa. But the interim chief selector decided to give him another chance, a rather unique one!

Akhtar missed the fitness tests for the probables for the ICC event earlier and Wasim Bari, the interim chief selector, stated that it would be hard to select a cricketer without speaking to Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, and coach, Intikhab Alam, currently in Sri Lanka for the series.
The Pakistan fast bowler has been in the news for the wrong reasons more often than ever. He recently missed the ICC World Twenty20 in England and although he claimed to have healed from the skin infection (genital viral warts), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated otherwise.
Akhtar missed the fitness test and Bari decided to give him another. However, on the face of things, it appears rather farcical given that the test barely lasted twenty minutes and all Akhtar did were go through some running and fielding drills, nothing that hinted towards his actual specialization, bowling!
