For the betterment of his cricketing career, Shoaib Akhtar should change his bowling action. The pacer is inviting risk to his career by continuing with his bowling style. Former Pakistan cricket captain, Asif Iqbal advised on these to the injured Akhtar.

It is high time for the Rawalpindi-based blistering pacer to smoothen his actions, making them natural like Wasim Akram.

Age and time are not favoring Shoaib to maintain the same speed and bounce as he showed in 1999 World Cup. He is putting extra pressure by continuing with the same style.

Asif said,

He (Akhtar) has an action that literally hammers his body and therefore it will be a much harder task for him to keep himself match fit, than it was for someone like say Wasim Akram who had an almost effortless action.

It would take a great deal of commitment form Akhtar to get to full bowling fitness and to maintain it, Iqbal added.

Shoaib Akhtar — who made his test debut against West Indies in his local ground in 1997 — has appeared in the 42 tests taking 165 wickets. He played his last test against India in February this year.
