Akram Advocates a Sensible, Strong Coach to Set Pakistan Right

Wasim Akram believes there is a solution to the distraught in the Pakistan cricket dressing room. It is a coach.

The former Pakistan coach feels that the environment prevailing in Pakistan may deter foreigners from applying for the post of Pakistan cricket team coach. However, the commentator who has questioned why India was relying on a foreign coach in Gary Kirsten and Eric Simons as bowling consultant is not against Pakistan having a foreign coach.

But Akram feels that the need of the hour is not where the coach comes from but what he can do. In Akram's opinion, Pakistan requires a coach who knows how to draw the team strategy to take it forward and also, knows how to handle the players but hold the upper hand in the team with his passion and intuition.

Too many coaches have been appointed in Pakistan with a great deal of zeal but have had their hopes and dreams shattered and their reputations not always intact following a stint.

Greg Chappell, the former Australian cricketer and former Indian coach, has apparently turned down the offer to coach Pakistan even though Pakistan has typically thereafter denied approaching him.

Akram also feels that the job of the Pakistan captain should have a long term tenure, like a year.
