Andrew Strauss Highlights Sydney Test, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, India's No.1 as Targets

While England are celebrating the fact that they have retained the Ashes, the first time they have done so in twenty-four years, Andrew Strauss believes England should cast their net further, including the no.1 Test tag and the team that holds it.

Terming the Ashes victory in Melbourne as the "Holy Grail for English sides", the England captain was in a celebratory mood about the fact that England have retained the Ashes urn. However, he has not lost sight of the fact that England's ambitions must not be limited to cricket's oldest and most traditional rivalry.

Even in the stupendous success of retaining the Ashes which they have not done since 1986, the England coach, Andy Flower, and captain were emphatic that England's job was far from over after the Melbourne Test victory. There is still the matter of winning the Sydney Test or at least preventing Australia from winning the fifth and final Test in order to ensure that England won the Ashes down under for a resounding success graph.

Besides that, Strauss is looking much further to the forthcoming goals for the 2011 season that includes the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. England will no doubt feel optimistic of their chances as 2010 brought many reasons to celebrate including the ICC World Twenty20 2010 in the Caribbean with a toast that ended at Downing Street for Paul Collingwood led England team. Strauss would like to emulate similar success in the fifty over format where England have been unkindly labelled "bridesmaid but never the bride" for making it to the final thrice but never won it.

Strauss also does not want England's Test success to stop with the Ashes success but rather wants to translate it to the loftier ambition becoming the no.1 Test team in the world even if it means having to beat India to the post. England will have the opportunity to face off against India, and Strauss wants to keep England rolling, rolling in success that is.
