Andrew Strauss To Remain England's Test Captain After Giving up ODI captaincy

Although England are making big changes to their captaincy roles, the leadership of the Test cricket is set to maintain the status quo with Andrew Strauss in charge.

Strauss stepped down from England's ODI captaincy, thus paving the way for Alastair Cook to assume the reins beginning with Sri Lanka's tour of England. However, while Strauss may have given his age and opportunity some consideration with regard to the fifty over format, there are no immediate worries for him in the Test cricket format.

Strauss was the captain of the England cricket team as they fashioned back to back Ashes victory at home and down under and his partnership with Andy Flower as the Indian coach following the tumultuous relationship between Kevin Pietersen and Peter Moores was considered critical to keep England's ambitions on track.

It is perhaps in that light that Strauss would like to hold onto the Test leadership as do the ECB in agreement as England prepare to host Sri Lanka and India shortly thereafter. The latter, India's tour of England, will undoubtedly be the summer's bonanza in England given that India are currently the no.1 ranked Test team in the world and England have only been too vocal about realizing that rank someday themselves, a goal that has been clearly laid out by Flower upon reconfirming his position as the England coach.

With younger captains being identified for the ODI format in Alastair Cook and for the Twenty20 format in Stuart Broad, Strauss will know that the Test captaincy is his as long as England continue to produce the results that have led to their dramatic rise.
