England pressed the issue of a possible win from an unlikely match as they took the lead in the third Test of the Ashes at Edgbaston after the fourth day's play.

England suffered from sluggishness on the morning of day four but accelerated after lunch and after Ian Bell's half century through Andrew Flintoff and Stuart Broad to take a crucial lead with a day left.
Flintoff's seventy-four from seventy-nine balls and Broad's fifty-five from ninety-two balls were critical from England's point as England had gone into a bit of a slump at five down for 168. But the eighty-nine run partnership was just the tonic England needed to take a 113 run lead over Australia by posting a first innings total of 376.
In reply, Australia lost two key wickets - that of Simon Katich to Graham Onions. But England would have perhaps rejoiced more the foxing of the Australian captain. Ricky Ponting left gap enough for Graeme Swann to spin the ball dangerously back to hit his stumps. From fifty-two for two, Michael Hussey and Shane Watson guided Australia to eighty-eight for two at stumps on day four.
