The end came in rather hurried fashion. Mike Hussey cut a lone, rather sorry figure in the middle and it did not go without notice with the England captain, Andrew Strauss. However, it was a hastened victory for England and a great reward for a great toil.

England won the fifth Test of the Ashes at the Oval and it was after a great day's toil. At tea, Australia still had Mike Hussey at the crease and five wickets in hand. However, England closed the fourth day's play with a deserving win.
Hussey's century perhaps came too late for Australia's cause as Brad Haddin became Graeme Swann's third wicket of the innings having made thirty-four runs. Steve Harmison then struck first with the wicket of Mitchell Johnson. But his second blow was even deadlier. Two wickets in two balls meant that Australia were suddenly hurtling to defeat with the score on nine for 343. Five runs later, it was all over as Swann plucked out the resistance man, Hussey, as England sealed a glorious win by 197 to take the Ashes away from Ricky Ponting (who became the second Australian captain in the 132 years of cricket lore to lose the Ashes twice) and Australia, just as Andrew Flintoff wanted on the way out.
