Mohammad Asif is breathing the fresh air of a cricket stadium again. His feats against New Zealand were outstanding. Yet Asif is unable to let go of the days when he was left on his own. And he promises to speak about it when the time is right.

The Pakistan fast bowler was involved in a failed drug test during the IPL inaugural year while playing for the Delhi Daredevils and was held at the Dubai airport for possession of opium. Even before that, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) withdrew him and Shoaib Akhtar from the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy after they were found to failed drug tests.
But Asif believes that he has been unfairly treated and punishment meted out despite having strong reasons. Feeling betrayed by the board and living with the charges, Asif believes he will tell all when the time is right.
He stated to a local newspaper in Australia, "I had a very strong case, but they didn't actually listen. Nobody was with me, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) were on the back foot. I was just alone and had to handle the whole thing. I will tell everything when the time will come. It's not the right time to tell that. It was a very difficult time for me. There were lots of things in my mind in that time. Sometimes I thought I would not be back."
But he appears to have at least kept his cricket interests in perspective. His nineteen wickets in the three Tests against New Zealand at an average of 19.78 is only evidence of it. He will look to make this innings count over and above his previous misgivings.
