Aus Pak T1 Preview: Batting Dilemmas for Pakistan, Australia Wary of Pak Bowling

This is an unusual proposition. A neutral Test is being played at Lord's and neither team is willing to step off the porch and make a strong bullish statement about their chances.

The Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, believes that Australia's best aim for attack would be the inexperienced Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi. However, there is more to Pakistan than the captain himself and it is what has caused a few dilemmas.

The Pakistan team management is not sure whom to partner opener Salman Butt. And their problems with Shoaib Mallik finding form have not really yielded anything concrete of note.

But they need no worry about the bowling department. Australia are treading a cautious note with regard to facing the likes of Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer. Adding to the spin tales of Danesh Kaneria and Saeed Ajmal, it seems Pakistan's batting needs to make sure their bowling can continue to keep Australia on their toes.

Australia are banking rather heavily on Steven Smith for the spinner's spot but have no real worries in the bowling or batting department, injuries notwithstanding. But after their loss in the ODI series, they will look to better their winning record on this tour, and also, their Test record in England after it was hammered in by England during last year's Ashes. It should be a good contest either way.
