Australian Pace attack brutally assaulted the England batting order to post an innings and 99 runs victory in the fourth Ashes Test.
Earlier on the third day Australia was bundled up for 419 with England’s Sajid Mahmood taking 4-100. Andrew Symonds was only able to add a couple of runs on the third morning. He scored an impressive 156 before edging one off Steve Harmison. Mahmood then struck Clark and McGrath that finished the Australian innings at 419.
But soon the England side faced the magic of Brett Lee and Stuart Clark and McGrath. McGrath continued to bowl the teasing outside the off-stump line causing severe problems for the visitors. However he was a bit unlucky and his appeals were regularly overruled by the umpires. But it was Brett Lee’s day and the paceman bagged four wickets followed by Clark who got three and Warne got two.
The accurate bowling by the Australian pace attack reduced the England batting order to ‘Ashes’ for just 161 in the second innings.

None of the England top order had any answer to the magic that they were facing in the field. The only player to have survived for some time was Andrew Strauss who got 31. After rallying through the top order the only question left was how long the tail could wag. This question was taken care of by some splendid spin bowling by Shane Warne who by the end had got two victims.
The final scores were:
Australia: 419
England: 159 and 161
