The Australian spinners have unanimously that the doosra will not trickle down to the youngsters because they do not believe that it is a legal delivery.

The doosra, invented by Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, is an unconventional finger spinner delivery that many believe cannot be bowled without chucking. The Australian spinners, that included, Shane Warne, Ashley Mallet, Stuart MacGill, Jim Higgs, Gavin Robertson, Terry Jenner, and Peter Philpott.

India’s Harbhajan Singh, Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and Pakistan’s Shoaib Mallik have all used the doosra, also known in English speaking countries as ‘the other one’. In recent times, Pakistan Saeed Ajmal and South Africa’s Johan Botha have been reported for chucking for bowling the doosra.

It led to former Pakistan batsman and now commentator, Rameez Raja, to call for new laws that allow for the doosra as a legitimate delivery. While Ajmal’s action was cleared, Botha was not so lucky. He has been allowed to bowl in international cricket if he can keep the doosra out of his repertoire.
