BCCI Denies Fatigue was a Factor in Debacle

With India's humiliating exit from the 2010 ICC World Twenty20, the finger pointing and blame game did not take long to get going. But the Indian board denies that fatigue was the reason why team India was returning home without having won a single match in the Super Eights in the Caribbean.

Following India's defeat to Sri Lanka, the BCCI has let it be known through Rajiv Shukla that the board does not believe that professional cricketers used to the grind would be feeling fatigued.

Shukla claimed, "International cricket has always been very hectic and we have always had back-to-back matches and tournaments. Even now, a huge number of matches have been lined up. We cannot really say if that has had a bearing on team performance."

Perhaps referring to Mahendra Singh Dhoni's remarks after the match about players' fitness levels, Shukla told media, "The BCCI has clearly told players that if they are fatigued they should inform the board immediately, take selectors into confidence and they would be rested."

BCCI has decided to wait to take action until after the team management puts forth its report, "We are waiting for the report from the team management which we will receive once the team returns. We will then take whatever steps necessary and do whatever needs to be done."
