BCCI announces team India for World Cup, Sehwag, Pathan included

The BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the forthcoming biggest gala of cricket in the Caribbean islands from March 13. Indian selectors kept faith with the struggling Virender Sehwag and all-rounder Irfan Pathan by including them in their final 15-man squad for the World Cup.

The National Selection Committee along with skipper Rahul Dravid and coach Greg Chappell met in Mumbai to choose the 15-man Indian squad for the quadrennial extravaganza.

Dashing opener Robin Uthappa will open the innings with Saurav Ganguly, whereas handy all rounder Romesh Powar was left out as team is going with five seamers and two spinners.

Selectors valued Sourav Ganguly's experience and current form while veteran Sachin Tendulkar has been retained as the vice-captain for the World cup.

Before leaving, Indian team will assemble in Mumbai on the February 26 and will depart for West Indies on February 28. India will play two warm-up matches before its first group game against Bangladesh on March 17 at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.

India is in group B with Sri Lanka and Bermuda.

India's WC Squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Robin Uthappa, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar(vice captain), Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Anil Kumble, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth, Dinesh Karthick (wk).
