The likes of Sourav Ganguly may be keenly awaiting the BCCI's interaction with the various IPL 4 teams following the IPL 4 auctions even as the IPL franchisees have a grouse or two to pick with the BCCI and the IPL governing council, a fact confirmed by Vijay Mallya.

Sourav Ganguly could be at the centre of one controversy as the BCCI has apparently written to the IPL franchisees, requesting their response to the subject of unsold players at the IPL 4 auctions and whether certain franchisees could still pick from amongst them.
This development seems to be a confirmation of the fact that teams like Kochi are having a rethink of options and may really be pursuing the former Indian captain who was not retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders and to add insult to injury, was unsold at the auctions along with the likes of Brian Lara. Although the doors appear closed on the foreign cricketers, there appears to be calls for the unsold Indian cricketers from the IPL 4 auctions.
While this is likely to divide the IPL franchisees because some would counter the other franchisees' by suggesting that they should have been doing their buying at the auction instead of conserving their funds, there are bigger insinuations being made by the Mumbai Indians on the staging of the IPL 4 auctions and being backed by Vijay Mallya, owner of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Their contention is that the Chennai Super Kings were favoured at the auctions. It may be recalled that N. Srinivasan is on the board while also, acting as part owner of India Cements that owns CSK. Stating that the order of the players scheduled to go under the hammer was changed at the eleventh hour, leaving the remaining IPL franchisees little time to restrategize their options, the allegation is that the change was made to favour one team over the others.
Mallya, for his part, is throwing his weight behind the Mumbai Indians and hoping that the BCCI and the IPL governing council will answer the letter and clarify why the move was made without taking the franchisees into due consideration. Furthermore, the IPL franchisees have been asking for a larger say in the running of the domestic Twenty20 format, and this issue seems as pertinent as any to make a case for the IPL franchisees in a consultative role with the governing body.
