BCCI Relents to Indian Cricketers' Requests; Raises Bonus for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Almost lending legitimacy to the claims that some of the Indian cricketers would have enjoyed a better bonus, the BCCI has decided to double the bonus announced for the Indian squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 success.

Some of the newspaper dailies carried reports of how unhappy some of the Indian cricketers were with the bonus announced following India beating Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final. While no names were mentioned, it was understood that the Rs.1 crore bonus was not going down well with the Indian cricketers who felt slighted for several reasons.

For one, some of the cricketers apparently felt that they had the raw end of the deal from the cash rich board and that their efforts certainly deserved a better pay cheque. The second reason was that the cricketers were keen to cash in on their success, given the sportsman's limited shelf life. With the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy coming home after twenty-eight years, the players were keen on making sure that the reward was in proportion to the success achieved.

Although the BCCI have denied that there was any discontent amongst the players, that there was some consideration given and even acceded to suggests that perhaps there were some concerns sent across that were eventually deliberated upon, which is why the Indian cricketers are now richer by not Rs.1 crores but by Rs.2 crores for their outstanding work during the ICC tournament.

It must make the Indian cricketers the envy of their peers as well as public, but with plenty to go around, the cricketers have apparently been able to convince the board, through their extraordinary achievement, that parting with more of the pie was not a bad thing after all.

Now the interesting thing is whether the Indian cricketers will continue to complain about the workload or will they deal with that as a separate matter not as a bargaining point on the issue of the bonus.
