Axe has fallen on Kapil Dev for donning the chair for Indian Cricket League (ICL) as BCCI removes him from the honorary post of chairman of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The brain behind the ICL, Kapil Dev has been found guilty of ventilating wrath on the BCCI under the cover of ICL. Kapil is the chairman of the beleaguered Subash Chandra’s ICL, which is on the look out for players both national as well as international. The action by the BCCI can be taken as a retaliatory measure against the league that has opened its doors for players of all ages, groups and countries luring them with a number of dollars.
From now on Kapil ceases to be the chairman of the NCA in Garden City, Bangalore because NCA being under the BCCI cannot entertain someone from breakaway group. Moreover, as Kapil is the chairman of the ICL too, he cannot hold two posts.
Further, axe will also fall on players signed by the ICL. Once they join the league they will be debarred from playing at the national level.
The decision by the BCCI looked readymade and was expected ever since Kapil joined the ICL. May be the BCCI thinks that it can impede the growth of the league and prevent players from joining it. But, with few big names in the fray for the ICL, no stopping the league, it seems now.
