The IPL franchisee’s pruning of the list is the BCCI’s way of reducing humdrum moments in the course of the IPL 4 auctions.

Although the IPL 4 auction list of cricketers has been released, apparently the BCCI wants to avoid a situation wherein there will be several players whom no one will show interest and therefore, drag on the process of going under the hammer.

In that regard the BCCI has requested the IPL franchisees to notify the BCCI of their interests in certain cricketers by producing their list from the auction list so, the BCCI will sift those cricketers who have failed to attract interest from any franchisee.

On the previous occasion, the franchisees were asked to put the names on the chit of those they were interested in because after a point the IPL auctions had become a drag with no franchisee showing interest in the long list of names being called out. For instance, the Chennai Super Kings picked up South Africa’s Justin Kemp through such a process and found no rivals for the player either from fellow franchisees.

While streamlining the process in this way is a good idea to avoid passages where except for the auctioneer, no one will be interested in the proceedings. On the other hand, it could limit the shelf life of the cricketer’s prospects in the IPL because the franchisees could well change their mind at the eleventh hour when they will have perhaps lost one of their top rated players to another franchisee and then, would like the fall back option list.
