Bhajji Hits Back—Gilchrist has lost it

by Veena Gabriel

What is the matter with Gilly,Oh I am sorry, it should be esteemed former Vice Captain of Australian team Mr. Adam Gilchrist, the honest player whose integrity has been quoted off and on. The Australians are full of his kind of team spirit and are appreciative of how he walks off even before the umpires' decision when he knows he has nicked the bat.

Then why is he showing his "True Colours "now? In his aptly named autobiography first he slammed Sachin and called him liar, his evidence a joke and having no sportsmanship. He was lucky as Sachin is a very tolerant person. After all the hullabaloo, Gilchrist called up Sachin to apologise. Sachin's only reaction was that he was not amused by all the loose talk.

Now he is after Saurav and Harbhajan, calling them cowards indirectly, when they opted out of the Nagpur test in 2004-05 at the sight of green wicket on offer. He claimed that it appears Harbhajan developed 'flu' when he saw the grassy wicket. He also quoted an incident when Harbhajjan apologized to Ponting saying 'sorry, it won't happen again', 'it' being provoking Aussies when Monkeygate was fresh,

Well, it was about time and for how long can our fiery off-spinner keep his patience.Harbhajjan has hit back saying that former vice captain has lost it, obviously meaning his mental stability. Bhajji is naturally peeved about the so called 'honest remark' about him, as he was one who was always on the receiving end. He rightly questioned Gilly's integrity saying that while he walked off when he had nicked the ball, why did he claim a catch many a times when the ball did not even touch the bat or the catch was not clean?

Bhajji gave Gilchrist a piece of advice. After retirement, his top priority should be earning the respect of his peers. Also he should stick to his own team.Bhajji also bemoans the fact that the only purpose of raking up all this mud by Gilchrist seems to be one and only one - to make his book a best seller. He also warns that there may be more such tall claims coming in near future of mostly cooked up facts.

Interestingly, Harbhajjan averages 24 in each of his wickets in Headingley, Leeds England which is one of the greenest wickets, thereby proving Gilly wrong.

It seems that Gilchrist after printing his autobiography "True Colours" is having cold feet regarding its response and so to make it a best seller, the easiest way is to throw in controversies one after the other that too concerning Indian cricketers, as it will ensure sale of his book in India at least.

Harbhjjan is right, Gilchrist has really lost it.
