A powerful explosion occurred near about 3 kilometers away from the hotel in Colombo where Indian cricket team is staying. At least seven people were killed and 17 injured in the blast. With this frightful incident, the dark cloud seems to be hovering over the fate of the Unitech Cup involving India, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
However, BCCI sources confirmed that the Indian players were safe and there was no chance of pulling out the team from the tri-series in Sri Lanka.
Pakistani High Commissioner Bashir Wali Mohmed was supposed to be the target of the attack, Sri Lankan defense spokesperson Kehieliya Rambukwella explained. He blamed the Tamil Tiger rebels for the blast.
