The Board President's XI failed to send a few shivers down the spine for Australia. On the contrary, they were thoroughly bruised by the end of the first day of the tour match.

The Australian openers, Simon Katich and Shane Watson, has a rewarding first day, on which they both scored individual centuries. In prime form, the likes of Sreesanth and Jaidev Unadkat did not have a particularly good day, and despite not conceding runs by the dozens, failed to impress without the incisive bowling to trouble Australia in Chandigarh.
Such was the brazen attitude of the Australians towards the pedestrian bowling they were facing, that Katich actually retired to give the other Australian batsmen a go.
And there would be no further trouble in the day either as the Australian captain and deputy, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke, enjoyed the process of real match practice, batting on forty-two and forty-three respectively as Australian finished comprehensively on one down for 319 at stumps on the first day.
