Lee has signed up with New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 tournament by agreeing to play five matches for Wellington after completing his term with the New South Wales Blues.

Sidelined by an elbow injury since India's tour last year, Lee is in desperate mode to make the Australian ranks once more in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 which is to be hosted in the Indian sub continent. Lee had earlier expressed interest in finishing his career in India which he calls his second home.

Lee's injury has forced Australia to look at younger, fitter, inexperienced fast bowlers to make up the ranks and while they are still relatively embryonic, Australia is keen on shaping them for the future with Lee already being considered by some as being over the hill with injuries already making his life tough.

Lee had previously announced his retirement from Test cricket and for his huge contingent of Indian fans, at least the farewell in the one day game is expected to come on Indian turf.
