Steve Bucknor, the umpire caught in the cross roads of controversy during the acrimonious Sydney Test between India and Australia, has finally decided to hang up his boots.

Bucknor has sent forth the mail stating that he will be officiating in his final Test in the third Test between Australia and South Africa ending on the 23th of March and then his final ODI taking place between West Indies and England on the 29th in Barbados.
The umpire, who officiated for 126 Tests and 179 ODIs, has often faced the wrath of Indian fans over controversial decisions. Known for his trademark nature to raise his finger taking his time after an agonizing suspense for the batsman, Bucknor has seen both warm and unkind times, though some through his own doing.
While he states his body can withstand another couple years, the former FIFA referee who officiated between 1985 and 1992 felt that something in him was clearly stating that his time was up. Perhaps rightly so, given that the last World Cup ended up as a farce between Australia and Sri Lanka in the fading light of the Caribbean, much like Bucknor’s tenure is likely to end, sadly.
