The IPL franchisees and the BCCI will have a delicate ground to cross before they can meet one another mid way because as things stand BCCI's balancing act is not working for the business minded franchisees.

Amongst heavy criticsm following the Indian debacle in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean after the conclusion of the IPL 3, the BCCI has been wanting to curtail the number of matches proposed for IPL 4 in 2011 to less than the originally planned ninety-four matches.
As a follow through suggested, the idea was to allow the Indian cricketers to play no more than fourteen matches in the event of such a long schedule.
However, it is learnt that the franchisees are against either idea panning out and their opposition has to do with the investment perspective when they will be putting up huge amounts for the cricketers and will want them available for the entire duration of the tournament. The idea extends to the foreign cricketers as well.
There is also reasonable opposition to reducing the number of matches as the BCCI proposes to introduce a group format with franchisees stating that the BCCI was aware of the schedule being prolonged as a result of adding two new teams to the IPL 4 schedule and season to the existing eight. Their contention not to reduce the matches is because it is the time of the year for the IPL to make money and for the businessmen to reap in profits.
