Butt has denied that the money found in his hotel room in London following the spot fixing allegations made by Mazhar Majeed to the News of the World was not for fixing matches. Rather in a candid interview, Butt has denied he had any role to play in what Majeed had to say.

While initial searches of the three accused Pakistan cricketers - Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer - revealed money in Butt's room, it had then been speculated that Butt had the money with him to buy his sister's trousseau. But in the interview he now claims it was the tour allowance money issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Pakistan's tour of England.

Salman Butt had been accused of being the mastermind in the Pakistan dressing by Majeed who was not aware that a sting operation was on. However, Butt insists that all he wants to do is play cricket and hopes to resume soon as the trio await the ICC hearing scheduled for January.

But what complicates matters for Butt is that he has apparently been on the ICC radar for sometime when the ICC unofficially claiming to have enough evidence to ban the players for life. If Butt is indeed innocent, it will be take a lot of doing to prove so in the face of the video produced by the News of the World as also, the suspicion brought on him by the game's governing body.
