Cricket Australia wants to be self reliant. But it cannot ignore INR even if its top dollar is forcing an Ashes cut back for England fans.

CA does not want to overtly depend on its association with the BCCI on the IPL plans for its financial revenue. Instead it would like to be a stable, income generating independent source.
But the Ashes have proved a stumbling block. While the CA has been convincing all that one day cricket has no place in the Australian cricket system simply because it does not generate sufficient gate revenue anymore, it is also stuck because the Ashes will not witness its usual rush of England fans due to the economic downturn.
However, even Cricket Australia knows that in order to thrive, it must include India in its plans, which is why the series against India is expected to generate profits in the region unimaginable as opposed to an Ashes, ie. Australia England series.
Having said that, while CA is looking forward to hosting that series, they are hoping that their local domestic Twenty20 tournament, the Big Bash League, will change their fortunes to become more self reliant as they change the format to a city based tournament a la IPL.
Cricket's penchant to generate revenue that has made BCCI's offers rich has also encouraged other boards to look at those avenues that will generate money. What does it say - greed attracts more greed? Or is it only about sustainability as some of the boards would have use believe?
