The Federation of Indian students is appealing to the Australian cricketers, ones who enjoy a fair degree of popularity in India as well, to join hands in the campaign to stop the racist attacks that have become prevalent in Australia in recent months, resulting in the brutal death of Nitin Garg who was a graduate student in Melbourne.

While the official word from Australia is that the unfortunate death is not a case of racism, the denial has been met with disappointment. Now the appeal is being sent across to the likes of Shane Warne and current Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, to raise their voice against the violence perpetrated.

Australian universities attract large number of Indian students and it is in the interests of Australia to ensure that these guests are handled with a great deal of protective force as Adam Gilchrist has also admitted that there were pockets of disrupting forces within the system.
