Champions League Twenty20 2010 in South Africa Preview: Glimmer Amidst Gloom

Enrique Iglesias is perhaps the one thing that makes the Champions League Twenty20 2010 less controversial. Given the spate of scandals currently rocking the cricket world, the CL T20 2010 in South Africa carries the huge burden of shaking up the cricket world, for the right reasons.

The much anticipated second edition of the tournament takes off tonight as three IPL teams - the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians - vy to leave a better mark they did the Indian teams from the 2009 edition that took place in India ( the inaugural CL T20 in 2008 was cancelled after the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai ).

South Africa will be represented by two teams that may not be big names in international cricket but could be underestimated at one's own peril. The Warriors and the Highveld Lions, who will play the first match against the Mumbai Indians, are expected to draw local crowds to the tournament that tests waters outside India for the first time.

Australia pack a punch in the Victoria Bushrangers who make a second appearance and the South Australian Bulls who will miss their imports, Kieron Pollard who will play for MI, and Shahid Afridi currently in England with the Pakistan cricket team.

Other teams include Sri Lanka's Waymaba Elevens who also qualify for a second year running and the Central Districts Stags from New Zealand who are not thrilled by the prospect of losing Ross Taylor to the RCB team and Jacob Oram to injury. Guyana hope to repeat the efforts of last year's finalists Trinidad and Tobago who made a huge impact on the tournament.

England will have no representation in this year's tournment due to domestic schedule clash while the deadlock in dialogue sees Pakistan yet to make their debut in this high profile international tournament of domestic champions.
