The entertainment meets cricket’ slogan is certainly back on the television screens and radio waves with the Champions League Twenty20 2011. That is because the Champions League Twenty20 2011 opening ceremony claims to pack a punch even before the real entertainment – the cricket – takes the field a day after.

Although the captains of the ten teams for the Champions League Twenty20 2011 will share the spotlight as they sign the Spirit of Cricket oath in association with the MCC, cricket will perhaps take a backseat on the night meant only for entertainment as a precursor to the tournament to follow.

The Champions League Twenty20 2011 opening ceremony is slated for the 22nd of September, the one day between the Champions League Twenty20 2011 qualifier tournament and the start of the Champions League Twenty20 2011.

The opening ceremony is set to feature some of more well known hip hop artists such as Ludacris, Flo Rida and Jay Sean, although it would be questionable how many fans will actually connect to the performances given that hip hop does not enjoy a huge following in India. One can expect desi entertainment as well although it is not being bandied around too much. In the past the IPL and Champions League Twenty20 tournaments have featured several actors and actresses from Bollywood as well as from the South and perhaps that is being kept closely under wraps.

Although there is no official word yet on whether Shah Rukh Khan, the co owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders and the face of the Champions League Twenty20 2011 will shake a leg, one would not be surprised if he does take the stage. The last time he did that, he impressed Chennai cricket fans by dancing to some of the local tunes. This time, however, there will be no surprises with Akon’s Chamak Challo is what the stadium will be reverberating to as SRK would want as he is heavily involved in promoting his forthcoming Bollywood movie, Ra.One, as he is the Kolkata Knight Riders who are yet to qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 2011 at the time of posting this article. Some heroics from Shah Rukh Khan’s team will still be required in the Champions League Twenty20 2011 qualifier tournament.

The night though is expected to be a spectacular one, and although there have been the odd ceremonies that failed to ignite despite the likes of Enrique Iglesias being present, little has been wasted in terms of getting some of the big names of the entertainment industry to swing to the beats of the cricket audience. The organizers will certainly want to draw in the crowds not only for the stand alone opening ceremony but also, for the cricket to follow. The opening ceremony will be the first on which all eyes will focus on ahead of the Champions League Twenty20 2011.
