Chargers Won't Play if Australians Won't; Modi Says, They Will; Gets BCCI Backing

There are conflicting sound bytes over the participation of the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers in the IPL 3 season.

Stating that Mumbai was no more safer than Hyderabad or Vishakapatnam, the Deccan Chargers franchisees dashed off a legal notice to the BCCI for relocating their home matches to Navi Mumbai and Nagpur.

However, Lalit Modi, the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, is assuring everyone through the media that the Deccan Chargers will indeed play in the IPL 3 and has asked everyone to ignore comments to the contrary (even those that come from the franchisee?).

The BCCI has responded to the legal notice by stating that it stands by the IPL's decision to relocate matches out of Hyderabad over the prevailing political environment over a separate state of Telangana.

But even as the Shiv Sena has renewed its threat against the Australian cricketers despite the assurances from the Maharashtra CM, Ashok Chavan, over security, and the cricketers themselves are consulting Cricket Australia and the Players Association over the decision to participate in the IPL 3 after the Pune Blast on the 13th of February, the Deccan Chargers have reportedly stated that they will not take a decision until the Australian segment of their team (and that includes the Chargers captain, Adam Gilchrist) come to a decision on whether they will participate. But if they pull out, the Chargers have told the media they will withdraw the entire team.

It is not over yet.
